Finnish start-ups come together to solve consumers’ climate challenges
A collaboration between sustainability design agency Infine and payment service provider Enfuce aims to tackle sustainability challenges associated with consumption. By combining research results and technical solutions, the companies will help people adapt their lifestyles and make them compatible with the goal of keeping global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius, and create competitive advantages for products and services developed respecting the environment, climate and human rights.
“We want to help people make more sustainable choices so that everyone can be part of fighting climate change, ease concern about the common future and create new wellbeing, ” says Monika Liikamaa, Chairman of the Board of Enfuce.
According to Sitra’s survey, 78% of Finns think that maintaining a sustainable lifestyle is important. However, consumers lack the means to evaluate the real effects of their choices. The central objective of the cooperation between Enfuce and Infine is to create an easy way for people to live according to sustainable values.
“The time for green washing is over. Companies that already offer responsible products and services will succeed in the market best. As consumers, we need easy and available solutions that will help us all live rewarding and sustainable lives, ” says Tiina Saukko, CEO of Infine.
One of the key goals of the cooperation will be to ease the identification of offerings. The Sustainable Choice label highlights situational sustainability and helps consumers find the most sustainable products and services available. The comparison takes into account the entire life cycle of the product with its emissions and impacts. Many domestic products have already lived up to these standards of responsibility.
My Carbon Action is a service provided by Enfuce that calculates a person’s carbon footprint based on individual purchases. Enfuce has teamed up with D-mat and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to bring personalised carbon footprint monitoring to banks, merchants and retailers worldwide. As part of the partnership between Enfuce and Infine, the Sustainable Choice label is being integrated into My Carbon Action. Enfuce also brings artificial intelligence and big data know-how into the sustainability design thinking. My Carbon Action can be used to build tailor-made services based on consumer buying behavior and individual needs.
Finland’s first sustainable lifestyle expo Future 2020 is produced by Infine and is the first pilot for the Sustainable Choice approach. Future 2020 will showcase a wide range of products and services that can make a difference – all of which will be approved by a panel of experts who use research as a foundation for their conclusions. The panel includes Professor Minna Halme from Aalto University, Corporate Relations Manager Irene Leino from UNICEF, Counsellor for Education Anne Liimatainen from Finnish National Agency for Education, PhD candidate Antti Majava from BIOS Research Unit, Professor Jyri Seppälä from the Finnish Environment Institute and Project Manager Markus Terho from Sitra.
Other sustainable actors are also invited to cooperate.
